Holidays in Rye – A Medieval Town

by Don

Rye is a picturesque medieval town located in beautiful East Sussex. Whilst East Sussex itself has plenty of places to visit, all of them easily accessible from Rye, a stay in the town itself will provide you with a great holiday of its own.

Rye is a small town with beautiful scenery, much of it dating back centuries. The town centre is wonderfully cobbled, and many of the houses still show their timber frames. A view across the whole landscape can be gained by visiting the twelfth century church, which will also allow you to have a look around a fascinating historical site. Of course, all of these can easily be visited whilst staying at a Rye hotel.

The harbour, marshes and bird sanctuary are all popular with visitors too, allowing them to see what Rye was founded upon, as well take in the beautiful nature and landscapes of the area. Tales of smugglers, navies and trade all take place in Rye, though if you want something quieter, there are still plenty of tea rooms to have a delicious cream tea in.

For eating, you can go to one of the town’s many pubs or restaurants, or visit a restaurant attached to an East Sussex hotel, all of which offer different experiences. The harbour is also well used by the local fish and chip shops.

Rye is perfect for a weekend break or a relaxed or romantic getaway. Its beautiful medieval atmosphere and architecture will leave you feeling at peace and thinking of a simpler time.
